Grants can be used for department health and wellness initiatives

The application period for the FY 2009 Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S) grants is now open. FP&S grants can go to support health and safety initiatives for firefighters. Apply now for funds to support your department’s health and safety activities.

FP&S grants support projects that enhance the safety of the public and firefighters from fire and fire-related hazards. In addition to funding fire prevention activities, the grant can also support firefighter safety research and development. The NVFC Heart-Healthy Firefighter Program is supported by an FP&S grant.

The FP&S grants are part of the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program, which is administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Grant Programs Directorate in coordination with the U.S. Fire Administration. DHS has released the FP&S Program Guidance on the AFG web site at www.firegrantsupport.com. An applicant tutorial is also available to help with the preparation and submittal of competitive applications as well as provide an overview of the funding priorities and evaluation criteria. The application period is scheduled to be open from September 21 through October 23.
