September is National Preparedness Month, which provides Americans with simple steps to plan for emergencies in their homes, businesses, and schools. For firefighters and EMS personnel to be fully ready for emergencies, it is also important to ensure their minds and bodies are properly prepared to successfully serve their community. This year’s theme for communities is “A Time To Remember. A Time to Prepare.” As we mark the 10th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we remember the importance of making sure Americans and first responders are prepared for any disaster that may strike. Preserving lives, safeguarding property, and providing other vital services are just a few of the essential roles first responders play during an emergency. Ensuring that you and your department are at your best improves how you serve your community.
