Support the Heart-Healthy Firefighter Program
The NVFC Heart-Healthy Firefighter Program is the nation's only heart attack prevention campaign targeted at all firefighters and EMS personnel, both volunteer and career. Every year, more than half of all firefighter deaths are attributed to heart attacks, making this the leading cause of firefighter fatalities. The NVFC has designed the Heart-Healthy Firefighter Program to promote fitness, nutrition, and health awareness within America's fire and emergency services. FIRED UP FOR FITNESS Challenge
Physical fitness is an important part of a heart-healthy lifestyle. This interactive tool invites individual firefighters and EMS personnel to achieve their fitness goals, and features an annual grand prize drawing at a leading industry trade show with approximately 20,000+ attendees. Sponsors are featured in ongoing print and web site promotion of the challenge, as well as in publicity and signage at the show.
Heart-Healthy Chili Cook Off
The NVFC is initiating an annual event to raise funds and awareness about the Heart-Healthy Firefighter Program, featuring competitors from fire and EMS stations around the country. Media exposure for sponsors may include TV, radio, and print, as well as participation in custom promotions or in co-promotional opportunities with event co-sponsors or exhibitors.
Heart-Healthy Awareness Campaign
NVFC and our program partners seek to promote the Heart-Healthy Firefighter Program and reach firefighters and EMS personnel across the country through a variety of publications, online tools, and other resources. Examples of Heart-Healthy tools and resources that help spread the word to firefighters and EMS personnel about the dangers of heart attacks and provide strategies for heart-healthy living include:

Heart-Healthy Firefighter web tools that calculate levels of fitness, including the Healthy-Heart I.Q., Cholesterol & Heart Disease I.Q., and Physical Activity & Heart Disease I.Q.
National Heart-Healthy Firefighter mailings promoting heart attack prevention and heart-health awareness.
Heart-Healthy Firefighter promotional items such as stress balls, pedometers, and water bottles.
Heart-Healthy Firefighter Health Screenings, offered free to firefighters and EMS personnel at industry trade shows across the nation to detect risk factors such as blood pressure, cholesterol, and glucose.
