National Firefighter Health Week

August 17-21, 2009
In order to create awareness around important health issues in the emergency services and encourage first responders to take action, the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC), through its groundbreaking Heart-Healthy Firefighter Program, launched National Firefighter Health Week in August 2007. Now in its third year, National Firefighter Health Week is a week-long initiative to educate the fire and emergency services community and the public about a variety of health and wellness issues that affect first responders.
This year’s theme, “It takes a healthy heart, mind, and body to do what you do - Keep It Strong,” encourages first responders to learn their risk factors, commit to making healthy lifestyle changes, and keep the momentum going all year long. Each day of National Firefighter Health Week is dedicated to a different health issue of particular concern to the fire and emergency services.
